DIY: Stay warm this winter with less impact

Whether you currently reside in a dorm room or have your own place, you have likely already cranked up the heat. Keeping your living space heated takes a significant amount of power, which in turn takes a significant toll on the environment. Icicles hanging from your ceiling are not the answer, but taking a few extra steps to insulate your abode can really lessen your impact.

Research by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has shown common house plants provide a number of benefits besides adding color to your space. NASA’s studies conclude that rooms with plants have up to 50% less airborne microbes. They also found that plants remove ammonia, benzene and formaldehyde – all toxins that originate from common household products – from the air.
