Recycling has become an integral part of our society. Now more than ever, people are recognizing its importance. New generations of resourceful and environmentally-minded people have emerged and they are discovering innovative ways to reduce waste.
One of these innovative ways is the reusing of old paper bags, newspapers and magazines to create eco-friendly gift wrap. What many people don’t know, however, is that they can use these same materials to create gift bows.
All you need to complete this project is a magazine page, scissors and staples or tape. Just follow these simple steps, and you’ll have eco-friendly toppers for all your gifts in no time!
For best results, try to choose a magazine page that has complementing colors or is a solid color. Make sure it matches your gift wrap!
2. Cut the magazine into strips
Cut a magazine page lengthwise into nine strips. You will leave three of the strips full length. Cut one inch off of three of the strips. Cut two inches off of two of the strips. Cut the last strip down to about four inches.
Next, you will twist eight of the strips’ ends together to form a loop; staple or tape each loop in the center. Then, form a circle with the last strip and use staples or tape to secure it.
Finally, layer the three longest strips on top of each other. Space them evenly and secure them to each other with staples or tape. Repeat this step with the next two groups of strips, stapling or taping each set to the one before it.
Finally, secure the smallest loop in the center, and voila! You’ve got yourself a gift bow!
