Photo Friday: Signs of Wayne National Forest

Wednesday afternoon residents from the Athens County area held a rally at Wayne National Forest to show their belief in having an EIS, Environmental Impact Survey before beginning any form of fracking within the national forest’s lands. Despite being outside of Athens, Ohio fracking within Wayne National Forest will affect the members of the Ohio University community from food and water supplies to bike path usability. Ronda Koch, a resident of Albany, Ohio stated, “The community wants to trust that these officials have our best interest at heart.” A number of community members spoke, voicing the opinions of those gathered but one of the most prominent features of the rally came in the form of the different signs participants held to silently but firmly state their stance on the issue of fracking.
